InDisk™ is used to "catalog" the contents of a disk, and print the "catalog" of the disk and a folding pattern onto a 8-1/2 x 11 sheet of plain paper. It eliminates the age old problem of messy handwritten disk labels. The sheet of paper is then folded into a sleeve which shows the contents of the disk in hierarchal order and protects the disk. The listing, by name, along with the date, time of last modification and file size is shown as if all folders were open. (InDisk™ does not actually open the folders or augment your disk in anyway; it just shows it like that.) This neat labeless-labeler provides a fast and easy way of labeling all your disks for filing or for sending to another person.
For floppy disks and flopticals, InDisk™ prints a "pouch" or a "pocket" sleeve. Simply insert the floppy disk into it. For Zip Disks, InDisk™ prints a "wrap-around" label. For SyQuest, Bernoulli and other disks InDisk™ prints a "fold-flat" label.
INSTALLATION
Drag-and-drop the InDisk™ labeler icon and readme file into the folder of your choice on your Mac. We hope you'll use the program often, so you might want to consider leaving the program on your desktop, or putting an alias of the program in your Apple Menu Items or start-up folder.
QUICK START
Uncompress the archive file, and move the InDisk™ program to an appropriate location on your hard disk. Double-click on the InDisk™ program icon to start the program.
1. Click anywhere (except on the register button) in the Splash Screen window to dismiss it.
2. In the Status Window that appears next, you will see the message that InDisk™ is ready for you to insert a floppy disk, or to select a disk drive.
3. Insert a floppy disk, or, choose a format from the popup menu and click the Select button to catalog a hard disk. Floppy disk insertions are automatically detected. If you use the Select button however, you will next need to choose the hard disk you would like to catalog from the disk selection window.
(A) (B) (C) (D) (E) (F) (G)
The "Style:" button set, controls how the printout of the items on the disk are arranged.
(A) The first button prints file names only in two columns gives more items on less pages using this option.
(B) The second button prints the size and modification date and time of each file and folder. You get more information using this option.
The "Level:" button set, controls how deep into the folders items are listed.
(C) The first button causes all files and folders to be printed.
(D) The center button causes folders only to be printed. No files are printed on the sleeve.
(E) Files and folders __ deep includes only the number of levels specified of files and folders. It excludes below the specified level.
(F) Set the depth of folders Level 1 will print only the first level of folders. Level 2 will print the first level of folders and files, etc.
(G) Click this little latch to hide the buttons.
4. InDisk™ will take a few moments to catalog the disk you have selected.
5. You will see an unscaled preview of a portion of the sleeve that will be printed.
6. You may be prompted to interact with a Page Setup Dialog to set the print orientation to Portrait (vertical) or Landscape (horizontal). Simply follow the instructions. Floppy and Floptical sleeves require Landscape mode, whereas Zip, SyQuest and Bernoulli sleeves require Portrait mode.
7. InDisk™ will then present you with the Print Dialog. Click on the Print button to print the sleeve, or click Cancel to abort printing.
8. After printing, if you selected a floppy disk, the disk will be ejected. If you selected a removable disk, you may be prompted for printing additional pages. InDisk™ is configured to print page 2 on the back of page 1. You are given an opportunity to reinset page one into your printer to print page 2 on the back side. Just click Cancel to abort printing of the subsequent pages, or keep clicking OK to continue printing. You can turn continous printing on or off in preferences.
9. Fold your sleeve(s) according to the instructions, and they are ready to use. InDisk™ should now be ready to catalog and print sleeves for other disks you select.

FIRST TIME DEMO USERS PLEASE NOTE
You will be limited to printing (12) pages. Don't waste them. On your first printout please check the distance of Fold # 1 from the left edge. Use the nudge command (as instructed below) to correct if necessary. On your second printout enter 4 or 5 for the number of copies in the print window. This will allow you to get the hang of making the folds. We hope you like InDisk and will want to register. Please see the instructions at the end of this readme.

NUDGE (found in the Preferences dialog box)
For floppy disks sleeves Fold #1 should be located 3-1/2 inches from the left edge of the paper. Adjust the position of the folds by using the Nudge option from the File menu. If you measure greater than 3-1/2" decrease the distance by using a negative (-) number in the X nudge box. If you measure less than 3-1/2" increase the distance by using a positive (+) number in the X nudge box. Also Fold #4 should be about 1 inch from the bottom edge.
FOLDING THE SLEEVE FOR A FLOPPY
It's just three folds and tuck in the flap! You'll only need to follow these directions once or twice. After that the folding will be intuitive.
•••••••••••••••••MAKE SURE ALL FOLDS SHARP AND SQUARE.••••••••••••••••
Run you fingernail across the fold to make a sharp crease.
FOLD #1
Fold along line 1. Then, lay the sheet face down on a flat surface so that fold #1 is face up and towards you as shown below.
FOLD #2
Grasp the edge farthest away from you and carefully fold over on top of the first panel, even and square with fold #1. It should look like this:
FOLD #3
Rotate the sheet around as shown in fig. (A). You should now see the #3 fold and "4 FOLD HERE THEN TUCK FLAP IN" at the top of the sleeve. (B) Bring the bottom edge up to and even with line 4 so that you make the third fold. Run your finger nail or a pen along the fold to make it sharp.
FOLD #4
Fold the top half inch flap of the sleeve along line 4 so it's now on top of the sleeve. You should be able to read the copyright notice.
THE TUCK
By now you should be as excited as I am! Here's the hard part read carefully. I'm counting on you to do a good job! Hold the sleeve in your left hand with flap up and disk name towards the left. Lift up the flap and gently squeeze the sleeve causing it to bow open.
Insert a finger from your right hand into the pocket formed by the left most edge (this is the panel with the disk name on it) and the second edge. Gently squeeze the sleeve some more causing it to bow open. FINALLY, press one corner of the flap into the pocket and then the other. Your done!!! Run a fingernail along the edges to sharpen the folds. You should have a nice square sleeve the size and shape of a floppy disk.
NOTE: The first time you insert a disk your sleeve will be slightly tight. This will adjust as the sleeve forms to the disk. You can adjust the "tightness" of the fit by using the nudge option (SEE NUDGE INSTRUCTIONS). Tighten by decreasing the x value and loosen by increasing the x value. Positive and negative numbers may be used.
Printing
If you are printing a Floppy or Floptical sleeve, you may see the following alert:
If you are printing a Zip or SyQuest or Bernoulli sleeve, you may see the following alert:
Hopefully, you won't see this every time you print a sleeve, but that could happen if you alternate between floppy and Zip sleeves, for example, which require different orientations.
You can also select Page Setup from the File menu before specifying a disk to catalog and print a sleeve for. Here, you can set scaling to fit more items onto a single page. Inkjet printers may not be readable below 25% scaling.
You will be prompted to re-enter a scaling factor (via one of the 2 alerts shown above) if you specify a factor above 100%.
Note that scaling only affects the catalog content items' text. The folding pattern, logo, disk title, and instructions are not affected.
If your a printing a Zip or SyQuest sleeve, and not all of the catalog content items fit on a single page, you will see the following alert:
This gives you an opportunity to wait for page 1 to complete printing, so you can re-insert it and print page 2 on the backside. If you want to stop printing subsequent pages, click Cancel. If you don't want to print on the backside, you can click OK even before page 1 finishes printing. If, however, you want page 2 to print on the back of page 1, you must wait until page 1 has completed printing, then re-load page 1 as the first sheet in the printer (you may also need to flip the page over, depending on your printer's paper path -- experiment to find out). When you click the OK button, you'll get the Print Dialog, and after you click the Print button, page 2 will begin printing on the back of page 1.
This alert will be presented for all subsequent pages. Note for odd pages (1, 3, 5,...) you probably don't have to wait -- just click OK. It's the even pages (2, 4, 6,...) that you must wait for the previous page to finish, if you want 2-sided sleeves printed.
You can set the preference for continous printing if you wish to print only single sided sheets and bypass this dialog.
Preferences
The General Pane of the Preferences Window is shown below:
The four radio buttons on the left, "General", "Logo", "Nudge Floppy", and "Nudge Zip/SyQuest" control which pane of the Preferences Window is to be displayed. The General Preferences Pane is displayed above, and the others are discussed in turn below.
The OK and Cancel buttons work as normal -- Click OK to save changes, and click Cancel to discard any changes you may have made while editing preferences.
The Multi-page printing controls your choice of printing just the first page or print multiple pages. You can also set the printing to stop after each page so that you can turn the sheet over and print the backside to reduce the number of pages of the printout.
The Automation options let you control how much interaction with InDisk™ is required.
The "Skip Print Dialog" checkbox may be checked if you don't want the opportunity to cancel a sleeve from printing. Normally, InDisk™ will display the Print Dialog before each sleeve it prints. If this is cumbersome, or annoys you, you can skip the Print Dialog by checking this checkbox.
The "Stop After First Page" checkbox may be checked if you never want to print additional pages (applies to Zip and SyQuest sleeves only).
The "Auto-Eject Floppy" checkbox controls whether or not floppy disks are auto-ejected after cataloging and printing. If this checkbox is not set, after cataloging and printing, InDisk™ will bring the Finder to the foreground -- otherwise, it would try to re-catalog the (still-inserted) floppy disk.
"Auto-Eject Removable" is the same as "Auto-Eject Floppy", but applies to removable disks like Zip, SyQuest, and Flopticals.
Note if there are open files on a disk, it cannot be ejected.
The "Auto-Find Removable" checkbox may be checked to bypass the "Select a Removable Drive" window, if you only have one removable drive. If you only have 1 Zip drive for example, InDisk™ can auto-detect which drive it is, and begin cataloging it without bothering you to select the disk. Note if you have more than a single removable drive connected to your computer, this setting has no effect.
The "Font:" and "Size:" popups allow you to alter the font and size of the catalog items printed. Note this does not affect the font of the file size and modification text, only the file/folder name text. (The *size* of ALL text is affected however). It is recommended that you leave the settings at "Geneva-8", and then use scaling in the page setup dialog to accomplish fitting more items on a sleeve. However, if you have trouble reading the small font, you might bump this up to a larger size, or a different font. If you do so, be aware that some text may be truncated if it does not fit in the physical space provided on the sleeve.
Logo Preferences
InDisk™ allows you to print a logo at the top of a sleeve. You can create your own logo (using a graphics program of some sort), Copy your artwork to the Clipboard, then Paste it into InDisk™ from this window.
Constructing your logo in any drawing program that can save in PICT format. Freehand, Clarisworks, Mac Draw etc. The logo must be no larger than 1/2" high by 3.0" wide. This is logo "window" that InDisk uses. Position your logo as you want it to appear. If you want a border around it construct it in your document. You can not position or size anything in the logo window from within InDisk. If, for example you have a square logo and you want it to appear in the center construct a white box 3" x 1/2" as a background (or use a color if you wish) position your logo in the center of the box. Your now ready to place the logo into InDisk
In the example above, there is no graphic on the Clipboard. However, if you created your own logo in a graphics program, and copied it to the Clipboard, it would appear directly under "Current Clipboard Preview".
The next step is to move your artwork from the Clipboard to InDisk™. You do this with Paste. After you click on Paste, the logo that is visible in the Clipboard Preview will be moved to the "Current Logo Preview". This indicates it is installed into InDisk™ when you click OK, and will be used as the logo on all future sleeves you print, unless you change it to something else.
If you would like more room for catalog content items, and have no use for a logo, select "Hide Logo" from the "Print Logo"/"Hide Logo" radio button set. The logo will remain in InDisk but not be printed. When you again want to use your logo simply press "Show Logo"
If you have more than one logo you'd like to use often here's how: Lets call two logos Spectrum Graphics and Zap Consulting. Change the name of one copy of InDisk to InDisk Spectrum. Now make a copy of InDisk Spectrum. Change the name of that copy to InDisk Zap. Open the InDisk Zap and paste in your Zap Logo, close the application and open the InDisk Spectrum. Paste in the Spectrum logo. (If your copy comes up as a demo simply enter your same registration code.) Simply run which ever program you need. You can have both open in the background and just bring to front when needed. Try colored paper too, its great.
Nudge Floppy Here you can nudge the output of the floppy and floptical sleeve if it is not in the correct location on the page.
Nudge Zip/SyQuest Here you can nudge the output of the Zip and SyQuest sleeve if it is not in the correct location on the page.
--------------------------------------------HOW TO REGISTER-------------------------------------------
You will need a registration code if you wish to continue to use InDisk after the demo version is used up. Each copy of InDisk has a unique serial number which begins with SN and letter and continues with an eight digit number. Example: Serial # A12345678. Write down this number (Please be sure to copy it EXACTLY.)
You can register via the Internet by going to our home page located at
http://members.aol.com/indisk/
Or you can register by mail or FAX to the address listed below. The cost is $9.95.
On our home page, click on "go to register page". Follow the instructions and enter your information. You will instantly receive a registration code on screen and by Email.
When you receive your registration code bring up "About InDisk™..." from under the Apple Menu. The About... Window is shown here:
Note you will see a different serial number on your screen. To enter your registration code, click the "Register" Button, and the following window will appear:
Entrer your registration code in the space provided, and, after a message telling you "Thanks for Registering InDisk™", the About Window will look like this:
Again, your serial number and registration code will be different than those shown above. After using the free demo alotment, you must register to continue using the program. When your free count expires, you will see the following alert if you try to catalog and print a sleeve for another disk:
When notified of an upgrade please go to our home page at http://members.aol.com/indisk/
Click on "download the Mac demo". After copying the new version to your hard drive open the program. For registered users the start up screen should show the same serial number as your old application or go to the "About InDisk" under the apple menu (when InDisk™ is the front-most program). Press the register button and enter your same registration code. The new version will convert from demo mode to a registered version. After you are satified with the new version you may trash the old one.
UNINSTALL/INSTALL
You've probably noticed that if you copy a registered InDisk to another computer it reverts to the demo mode. Your user license is for use on one machine. You should then see the following alert:
8. Click OK and then simply drag the program icon from the floppy to location of your choice on the hard drive. Eject the floppy disk. You are done.
If you try to install or uninstall from a locked floppy, you'll see the following alert:
If you try any of this with an unregistered copy of InDisk™, you'll see the following alert:
Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions or difficulties.
Correspondence about InDisk may be directed to Warren Schroeder:
Thanks for using InDisk. If you like it please give a copy to your friends!
Caveat
InDisk™ only catalogs and prints sleeves for floppy disks if InDisk™ is running in the foreground. The program does nothing when running in the background. If a file on the disk was opened by some other program while InDisk™ was in the background, then after the InDisk™ is brought to the foreground and catalogs the disk, it may not be able to eject the disk properly (because there is a file open on the disk). The best advice is be sure all files or programs on a disk are closed before bringing up InDisk™
